I remember the final scene of Doctor Strangelove: a man in a cowboy hat happily riding the atomic bomb. In the background, light, melancholy musical notes appeal to a future that will never come. This is how it will happen, lightheartedly. They're getting us used to the idea, they're smoothing out the edges of our rejection. They're distracting us with superfluous details, with fashions and refrains. They're tapping into an old but ever-appealing aesthetic, that of good and evil. It seems impossible, but we'll fall for it again.

The Alpha and Omega.
The Alpha and Omega.
