One day, at school, during French class (I was 11), the teacher, introducing herself to the students, said she was Protestant, a word that had never entered my catholic home, nor had a figure with these characteristics ever emerged. A Martian, who was standing in the classroom and was looking at me. It was the first time I understood, through my own emotional reactions, what conformism was and how I could be a protagonist in it. Since then, I've experienced it many times, sometimes succumbing to it, sometimes challenging it. It certainly falls into the category of highly harmful behaviors that I am aware of. (..)Without one thing, all will be useless,I give you fair warning, before you attempt me further, I am not what you supposed, but far different.(..) Walt Whitman, Whoever you are holding me now in hand
